We absolutely love the 50s pin up style here at Guns N Posies, most pieces we create are inspired in some way by that era and includes a modern interpretation of the style.
I had been wanting to make my very own 50s style dress and finally got round to doing it. I had to create my own pattern as I couldn't find something that was exactly what I wanted anywhere - if i'm honest, I didn't spend too much time looking and out of being very impatient, I decided to try myself. From hours of looking through many gorgeous fabrics, I found one of my favourite designers Alexander Henry had worked his magic and created something I "ummed & ahhed" about buying for ages. Viva Frida! The colours, pattern and my love of sugar skulls just jumped out at me and I decided this is what i'd make my dress out of.
So, after many alterations and screwed up baking paper patterns later this is what I created...
I paired my new dress with some killer wedges that I would never be able to wear out of the house now (how on earth did I EVER manage a whole evening?!) but they worked for photo purposes.
I'm quite pleased with how this came out and have already ordered some new fabric to make another. Thank you Alexander Henry for creating such fabulous fabric!
